All Holiday Lake residents are invited to the next Water Quality Committee meeting to be held Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 PM at the maintenance building. Craig Hempy from the NRCS (Natural Resource Conservation Services) will speak and answer questions.

We are looking for a volunteer to take over the duties of the webmaster. The website receives over 1000 hits a month. Please contact the office if you are interested.

On April 18,2006 750 Grass Carp were added to all three of the lakes for weed control.
At this time we are looking at adding Redear Bream [sunfish] they eat snails that cause
worms in fish, we are also looking at some things to help our own fish to reproduce.
The Board of Directors would like to thank the following persons for their generous donations of $100.00 or more for the fish fund: Tim and Jacque Sanderson, Shannon and Debra Hershey, Lynn Baustian, Scott and Janice Bittner. All the persons who participated in the 2005 and 2006 Poker Runs.
We also need DONATIONS for the FISH FUND that can be made at the MAINTENANCE OFFICE.

Members of Holiday Lake Association need to be aware that there has been ATV and Golf cart thefts this year. It is important for everyone to take anti theft precautions such as parking your vehicles in a garage or in a lighted area, extra locks etc.
We would like your assistance in monitoring the lake areas for any suspicious or mischievous behavior. If you see anything suspicious please call:
If you call the sheriffs department to report a stolen vehicle please have your vehicle information prepared for the report such as a full description including serial number. Immediately after your report of the theft to the sheriffs department please contact Holiday Lake Security Mark Baugh (641) 522-5598
If you have an emergency please have someone meet the equipment at the entrance which is closest to you (if possible.) This can save time in trying to locate you. 911 signs can be ordered and delivered to the lake office, the cost is only $23.00 and these are very helpful to emergency personnel, friends and family.
Water Patrol:
The Holiday Lake Board of Directors is looking for responsible person or persons to patrol the water for 2007. If you are interested please contact the maintenance office or your unit director.
Storm Watchers:
If anyone is interested in becoming a storm watch spotter, please give us a call.

Campers: Just a reminder that all campers must be removed by October 31st of each year. A corporate assessment will be issued.
Winter Snow Removal: Winter months are typically November through March. Primary roads are considered to be those roads that lead to the North and South exits from the lake. These roads will be given priority during snow removal.
The primary roads are defined as:
Buena Vista, Skyline Drive, Tracy Drive, Franklin Drive (South Exit), Iowa Boulevard (North or Powell Park Exit) and North, South, East and West Lakeshore Drives.
If possible please park vehicles off of the roadways.
Accomplishments:
New benches at the beach, ball diamond, basketball court and swing by playground equipment.
Rip-rap was broken down to size and ready for placement on the dam.
Safety railings have been added around culverts and public areas to help prevent accidents.
Filled holes with gravel and cold-patch where needed.
Trimmed trees and brush along roadways.
Road grader continues to improve road status around the lake.
Dredging was completed in Bozo Pond and the silt basin received over six feet of silt and mud. In 2007 we will be dredging in Fords Cove. You will be notified if lifts or docks need to be removed.
Water Testing:
Water tests were taken for E.coli on 9-27-06 Beach less than 10, South Dock 10.
Please note that the state does not recommend closing of lakes unless readings are 235 or over.
Bruce Bauer and Larry Ehrig attended Iowa Water Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring class and Bruce Bauer has been taking standing water assessments for; pH, Nitrite-N, Nitrate-N, Dissolved Oxygen, Phosphate and Chloride.

Shorelines:
Shorelines are a concern for Holiday Lake due to constant soil erosion. The Holiday Lake Board of Directors is asking homeowners to check their shorelines to see if there is sufficient protection against soil erosion. Some examples of proper shoreline protection are large rocks, landscape blocks, railroad ties, sand beaches, etc. After August 1, 2007 shorelines will be checked and a letter will be sent out to people who failed to have sufficient protection. If you are unsure if your shoreline is acceptable please contact your unit representative or the office.
Maintenance Fees:
You will receive the billing for 2007 fees at the 1st of March and due April 1st. Fees are to be paid in full and stickers need to be mounted and visible by May 1st. After May 1st your account will be turned over for legal action. If you wish to start now by making payments towards those fees please contact the office during normal business hours.
Recreational Stickers:
Land and Watercraft registration for 2007. Pursuant to Articles XI section C there is an annual user fee of $15.00 per land craft and water craft that is due April 1, 2007. A $30.00 service fee will be charged for returned checks.
Added to the user fee will be a late fee of $15.00 per land or watercraft sticker that has not obtained or displayed by May 1, 2007.
ALL STICKERS MUST BE VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES ON RECREATIONAL VEHICLES AND PERMANENTLY STUCK TO BOTH SIDES.
Landcraft definition - All vehicles, (other than passenger cars, trucks, motor homes, construction and maintenance vehicles) This includes, motorcycles (non state registered), mopeds, mini bikes, ATV’s (3 & 4) wheelers, snowmobiles, golf carts and any other motor vehicles. All land craft must have working headlights and taillights if out after dark. Must have a safety flag. Recommend age for ATV must be at least 16 years old to drive. Recommended age Golf cart drivers must be at least 14 years old.
Watercraft definition: All motor boats, sailboats, paddleboats, rowboats, trolling boats, pontoon boats, canoes, jet skis and wind surfers.
Ice Fishing - Any lake member that is going to ice fish must purchase a sticker in the amount of $15.00 each season.
Red Flag - on the dam in place of the American Flag means no wake due to high water.
Remember that no guest watercraft is allowed on the lake and only one craft per lot is allowed on the lake at anytime. No guest land craft is allowed on Holiday Lake property.
Anyone who is caught in the Holiday Lake Subdivision without a valid sticker will be charged a delinquency fee of $15.00 at which time you will be allowed one business day to pay your penalty and sticker fee. The second offense will result in a $75.00 corporate assessment. Third offense will result in a $250.00 corporate assessment together with loss of privileges.
Independence Celebration:
Saturday June 30, 2007 Independence Day Celebration with Fireworks, the rain date will be Sunday July 1st. Sponsored by Holiday Lake Owners Association and lot owners.
Sunday July 1, 2007 ATV/Golf Cart cruise/parade: Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. at Powell Park. Cruise/parade starts at 3:00 p.m.

Annual Meeting:
Saturday August 18, 2007 Annual picnic at 5:00 p.m. followed by the annual meeting starting at 6:00 p.m.

Remember: Before digging you must contact Iowa One at 800-292-8989. Call at least 48 hours ahead of time.
Culverts: The Holiday Lake Board of Directors would like to ask for assistance from the lot owners to make sure their culverts are free of dirt, gravel, leaves, etc.
Recycle Bin:
Please note: NO plastic bags, packing peanuts or trash/garbage (example: used paper towels) in the bin.
Also, glass needs to be clear, no colored glass please. If these items continue to be thrown in the recycle bin we will have to consider discontinuing the recycle bin. Bins are available for: clean metal, paper, magazines, broken down cardboard and number one and two plastics. The recycle bin is located at the office inside the fenced in area and is accessible during normal business hours.
Cans and Bottles:
All money from the collection of pop cans and beer cans and bottles go to the Fireworks Fund as well as the donations taken at the gate. Thanks for your donations. The more donations the bigger the bangs! Please put your cans and bottles inside the barrels located beside the maintenance shop.
If you wish to make a donation to the fireworks or fish fund please make checks out to Holiday Lake Owners Association.
Rip Rap: We need clean cement for the dam. Please take this to East Ryan Park.
Lot Transfers: When buying or selling your lot please provide the office with the names and address of the new owners. Make sure that the deed gets recorded or the property is still legally yours.
