Property review to begin

         Poweshiek County Assessor, Margaret Hutchinson, would like to inform property owners that the Poweshiek County Assessors office is going to begin a house-to-house review of property at Holiday Lake, Lake Ponderosa and some of the small towns. Data collectors will begin going to each property at Holiday Lake in June to update assessment records, they will try to confirm the interior information we are currently using to establish the assessment with the property owner and also walk around the outside of each property. It is important that assessments are based on complete information in order to obtain equity in assessments. By law, residential properties are to be assessed at market value.

Data collectors reviewing properties will have picture identification from Poweshiek County. Data collectors are not setting the final values of property. Values are set by experienced appraisers from the Assessors office. If an assessment changes the property owner is notified by mail.

By County regulations, property owners at Holiday Lake and Lake Ponderosa are required to get building permits. Please contact the Assessors office for more information.
