Course Description
Race Site Location
Holiday Lake (holidaylakebrooklynia.com) is a private recreational lake located six miles north of Brooklyn, IA, centrally located between Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Iowa City and Waterloo. It is approximately 60-90 minutes from any of these cities. "Holiday Lakers" like to call it one of Iowa's "Best Kept Secrets". The Holiday Lake Association is proud of its facilities and is looking forward to making this a wonderful race for the athlete as well as their guests/families. Proceeds will go towards the Holiday Lake Community Center.
Swim
Wave starts begin at 9:00 a.m. This will ease the burden of having to get up too early and/or find overnight lodging. The 500-meter swim will start from the Leslie "Bud" Showalter Memorial Beach. The course is an out-and-back swim parallel to the dam. This will allow for a great deal of safety for the entire swim. This will also give spectators great views of the entire swim. Boats and safety personnel will be on the lake at all times. Wet suits will be allowed.
Bike
The challenging 25k bike course will follow V18 south and then north from 328th Avenue. All bikers must have an ANSI approved helmet to participate. Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on the course. No drafting allowed.
Run
The 5k run along Holiday Lake will challenge even the best runner with its ever-changing elevations. The run is completely separated from the bike course and within the confines of Holiday Lake residential area. Participants will finish the out and back run in front of the Holiday Lake Community Center. (The run will be an out and back instead of around the lake).
Who Can Enter
Individuals: Anyone who is at least 13 years of age as of race day can enter the Holiday Lake Triathlon. The field will be limited to 300 participants.
Relay Teams are welcome. Competition is relay style with two or three separate individuals. You cannot do both individual and team competition.
Clydesdale/Athena Division
If you are a man weighing 200 pounds plus or are a women weighing 145 pounds and over you qualify (but are not required) to race the Clydesdale/Athena division. There will only be one division for men and one for women. You must indicate this on your Holiday Lake Triathlon Registration Form.
Registration
Entry fees - see Holiday Lake Triathlon Registration Form. We wanted to make this affordable and also have discounts for early registration! Please print the registration form and mail. No online registrations at this time.
Chip Timing
We are happy to have secured the services of JMS Racing using state-of-the-art AMB Elite Timing System!
AMB's active transponders have internal long-life batteries that switch on and off as each athlete crosses over each start, split or finish line detection point. Participants will be given a transponder attached to an adjustable strap that wraps around the ankle for use during the triathlon. DO NOT remove the transponder from the strap and NO other chip may be used in place of the provided transponder.
These transponders are not transferable! Be careful not to switch with family members, friends, etc. Transponders must be worn at all times during the triathlon in order to receive any times. For teams, one transponder will be provided for each team. The transponder should be passed on to the next team member after each leg of the triathlon.
As these transponders are very expensive, it is imperative that all participants return them at the completion of the event. Volunteers at the finish line area will be prepared to take back the transponders as each participant finishes the triathlon. For participants that do not finish, please return the transponder to the finish line area before leaving the event. Transponders can be mailed back to:
JMS Racing Services
PO Box 582
Marion, IA 52302
A $50 fee will be charged to each participant who does not return their transponder.
